Case Study - Cloverbank Organic Farm
Cladding and roofing products from Silva Timber Products were provided for an exciting new residential building project at Cloverbank Organic Farm in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
The owners of the farm, Brian and Jane Clarkson had embarked on a challenging project to build themselves a round house at their farm in the beautiful Cheshire village of North Rode. The house would be constructed using polystyrene blocks, filled with concrete and then clad in Cedar shingles, providing superb insulation.
Cloverbank Organic Farm's environmental principles involve the free range rearing of animals, no GM in feed, no artificial fertilisers and electricity generated by a 6kw wind turbine, so a wooden house fitted their eco-efficient ethos perfectly. The house needed to blend into the surrounding countryside so the choice of materials was central to the build's success.
The exceptional beauty of Western Red Cedar with its warm, mellow tones and natural lustre, combined with natural durability and richness of grain, colour and texture of the Eastern White Cedar shingles is ideal for the rural setting for the house. Both species have excellent insulating qualities, complementing Cloverbank's energy efficiency strategy. The house is due for completion in three months so visit again to see some pictures of the finished product.
Owner of Cloverbank, Brian Clarkson comments "We contacted several potential suppliers but none of them had both products in stock, ready for immediate delivery. The team at Silva Timber Products were friendly, helpful and efficient and the quality of the products supplied will certainly do justice to the finished build. We will be more than happy to source timber products from them in the future."
