Vertical Grain Western Red Cedar, the finest quality grade available in the UK
Clear Vertical Grain Heart Western Red Cedar is sawn so that the annual growth rings form an angle of 45° or more with the surface of the board. Vertical grain boards are more stable and tend to retain a finish better that flat grain boards. This process is only undertaken to produce the very finest and most valued material.
Coastal Grown Western Red Cedar is fine grained with tight growth rings and tends to be richer in colour due the unique growing conditions on the British Columbia coastline.
Western Red Cedar - The Ultimate Outdoor Wood
Western Red Cedar is the choice of homeowners, architects and quality builders throughout the world. Aside from its aesthetic appeal, this remarkable wood has outstanding physical characteristics.
- Natural Durability
Western Red Cedar contains natural preservative oils making it highly resistant to decay.
- Superior Dimensional Stability
Western Red Cedar shrinks and swells much less than other timber; stays flat and straight and resists checking. This means that projects built with Vertical Grain cladding look fantastic year after year.
- Light in Weight
Being light in weight, Cedar is easy to cut and handle on site, reducing installation time.
Western Red Cedar Tongue & Groove V - Joint cladding is produced from the very best fine grained, coastal grown Western Red Cedar. It is kiln dried to 12 - 15% moisture content which means that it can be installed and finished immediately without the need for acclimatisation on site.
Our Tongue & Groove V - Joint has been planed and sanded on one face leaving a smooth finish that is free of all natural and manufacturing defects. This benefit of this is that there will be minimal, if any preparation required before applying a finish as there is no planer skip or raised grain to deal with. Boards are reversible with the other face having a fine sawn finish which adds an appealing texture to the finished project.
