Kiln dried Sawfalling I-IV grade Siberian Larch channel cladding. This product is planed smooth on the exposed face and is machined with stress relief grooves on the reverse to increase stability. Our Siberian Larch cladding is quality controlled by the GOST standards for a consistent grade.<
With 'channel' cladding the profile of each board overlaps that of the board next to it creating a channel that gives shadow line effects, provides excellent weather protection and allows for dimensional movement.
Silva Timber's Siberian Larch cladding is equally popular with self-builders, architects and construction companies due to its aesthetic beauty, durability and longevity.
Siberian Larch is a sustainable, old-growth timber that has been used in construction for centuries. Its popularity lies in the fact it is aesthetically beautiful, naturally durable and long lasting. The remarkable qualities and unique performance characteristics of Siberian Larch have led it to being referred to as the 'Tree of Eternity'. It is used extensively throughout Europe and has proven itself in the harshest of climates.
Natural resistance to decay
Resins and extractives in Siberian Larch create a high resistance to decay and rot
Harsh growing climate
Grown in 'extreme continental' climate (short hot summers and long cold climates) provides a slow growth tree with a high proportion of latewood for a tighter grain, increasing the wood's durability.
Hard wood
Siberian Larch as a hardness of 1,100 lbs/in2 as measured on the Janka Scale. Fewer dents and abrasions mean reduced penetration by water and fungi.
High density
More difficult for decaying organisms to penetrate the wood.
Large content of heartwood
Siberian Larch trees are composed of 75-90% heartwood in their natural existence, which is denser, less permeable and more durable than sapwood. Heartwood provides maximum durability, consistent quality and a uniform colour.
Siberian Larch is one of the few old growth woods that are being harvested from a sustainable forest. The natural growth rate of Siberian Larch is five times more than the rate at whih it is being harvested. Larch species actually account for 38% of the timber in 2.7 billion acres in size. Since Siberian Larch is highly sustainable, this offers the foundation for a dependable supply. Sicne September 2002, our supplier has been certified according to the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and their plant was the first operation in the European part of Russia to be FSC certified.

The Benefits of Kiln Dried Cladding and Trim
Coverage
1m2 = 7.35 metres of board
Exposed profile face
137mm
Moisture Content
Kiln dried to 16-18% moisture content
Installation
Siberian Larch cladding up to 150mm should be fixed with one nail per bearer. For cladding over 140mm fix with two nails per bearer. Tongue & Groove can be blind nailed; all other profiles should be face nailed.
Finish coatings
It is recommended that finish is applied to all surfaces, including ends, before installation. The type of coating will be determined by the final finish and look selected. Click here for our range of recommended finishes. Alternatively, Silva Timber offer prefinished cladding in either solid colour or translucent stains. The finish protects the wood from moisture absorption and UV degradation. It helps prevents staining caused by mildew and extractives and will increase the service life of timber.
Fasteners
For best results use stainless steel annular ring shank nails. These have thin shanks and blunt points to reduce splitting. Nails should be driven with care into the framing members. Hand nailing is recommended as heavy nailing by pneumatic nail guns can cause wood distortion and splitting.
Batten Spacing
Siberian Larch performs best when installed properly on a suitable frame. Siberian Larch cladding should be securely nailed to battens, framing members, or to blocking between framing members. A 600mm spacing between battens is recommended. For more detailed installation information view the Cladding Installation Guide below.

This product carries Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Accreditation
FSC is a world-wide, independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation representing environmental and social groups and the timber and forestry industry. It aims to generate certification of forestry activity that incorporates clear guidelines and standards covering social, environmental and economic aspects of forest management.
Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives of the last decade to promote responsible forest management worldwide
The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value.
Chain of Custody (CoC)
The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification system provides an audit trail from forest to final use. The rigour of the system is ensured by regular independent inspection at all stages in the supply chain.
FSC chain of custody (CoC) tracks FSC certified material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.
Only FSC CoC certified operations are allowed to label products with the FSC trademarks. The FSC label thus provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.
