What is Seasonite?

A:

Owatrol Seasonite is an easy to use stabilising treatment for newly installed exterior wood, which offers a simple soap and water cleanup. Seasonite can be applied to all exterior wood inculding pressure treated wood, redwood, western red cedar and other fine exterior woods


Q:

When can I coat new wood with Owatrol Seasonite?

A:

Apply Seasonite as soon as the timber is installed to help stabilse the wood and protect it from movement stress and exposure to the elements. Seasonite helps minimise splitting, swelling, cupping and warping, for a sound surface which can then take further coatings, for example Owatrol Textrol.


Q:

How do I apply Owatrol Seasonite?

A:

Apply Seasonite as a one coat system by brush, roller, spray or by dipping for 10 minutes. If using as a finish coat, apply two coats, with the 2nd coat applying between 4-6 hours after the 1st. Do no leave more than 6 hours in between coats.

Does Owatrol Seasonite keep the wood from greying?

A:
All exposed wood will eventually turn grey, Owatrol Seasonitecannot stop this process completely. However, Seasonite will help retain the natural wood characteristics that provide the beautiful color tone of your wood, so any fading is much more gradual and even.


Q:

My deck has turned grey, will re-coating with Owatrol Seasonite revive the natural colour?

A:

No, as long as timber is exposed to UV rays, it will continue to grey unless protected.  Consider a thorough clean with Owatrol Net-trol, followed by another application of Owatrol Seasonite will keep wood looking natural.


Q:

Should Owatrol Seasonite only be used in the first year? 

A:

Not necessarily. If you like the appearance Owatrol Seasonite provides it can be used instead of other finishes. Ensure two coats are applied in the first year, then re-apply 1 coat as required, cleaning with Owatrol Net-trol first. This will allow the wood to retain a clean, natural appearance. 


Q:

Is Owatrol Seasonite water repellent? 

A:
Owatrol Seasonite provides initial water repellency and keeps excess moisture out, but the breathable nature allows moisture to escape. Seasonite should not be mistaken for surface water repellents, whih contain wax or silicone and cause water to bead from the surface.

Is Seasonite mildew repellent?

A:
Yes

Can I use Owatrol Seasonite on plywood or OSB Boarding in new constructions?

A:
Yes, Seasonite will minimise potential warping, swelling and delamination that occurs during the open phase of construction by stability the sub-flooring.


Q:

Will Owatrol Seasonite stop the chemical bleeding and staining associated with Western Red Cedar or Redwood?

A:

No, but the stains wil be less severe and much easier to remove after weathering than wood which is initially coatd with conventional clear finish.
