Rystix Exterior Armadek is a superior quality water based protective coating specially designed to protect and beautify wooden decks and can also be used on outdoor furniture and cabins. Armadek is an acrylic based product that forms a tough wear resistant coating on the sruface of the timber. UV filters, inhibitors and pigmentation combine to provide an exceptionall high degree of UV resistance and special agents prevent dry rot, insect and fungal attack. Armadek is an extremely quick drying and low odour product.

Where product lifespan is likely to be determined by physical abrasion rather than weathering then the hcoice should be to use Exterior Armadek. Armadek can be used to coat external timbers (beware of applying Exterior Sealer to timber with high natural oil content such as Western Red Cedar and Ipe) and application purposes including cladding, log-cabins, general outdoor wooden furniture, windows and doors, fencing, fascias, sheds and decking. 

Armadek can be applied by spray, pad application roller or brush.

The refurbishment process for Timbacare is different to that for varnishes on the market, in that these other products need to be removed from the surface of the timber (scraping or sanding) before re-coating can take place. Where Timbacare has been previously used, it is only necessary to clean the surface with detergent water and allow it to dry before applying a fresh coating. The process of recoating over time simply replaces the layers that have been lost to weathering.

In situations where maintenance turnaround are critical Armadek is an ideal product because of its rapid drying time. Benches, tables and decks can be re-coated and then put back to use within a very short time span.

Armadek forms a tough wear-resistant coating on the timber surface and contains special agents to prevent dry-rot, attack from insects and fungus and offers good protection against the harsh UV rays of the sun. It is not a varnish and therefore will not flake or peel if applied to clean, dry surfaces.

The product is quick-drying, easy to apply and low in odour, and available in several translucent shades.

Armadek - Key Points:

• Water based Acrylic resin base (provides an extremely tough coating finish suitable for high traffic situations such as decking).
• Layer building product (this provides UV protection as opposed to a penetrating oil which does not provide UV protection because it does not build a film layer).
• Contains UV filters and protects from fungi and insects.
• Not suitable for application to timbers with high natural oil content which are traditionally very difficult to coat in a horizontal situation (Cedar, Ipe, Teak, Massaranduba).

Armadek Specifications

Instructions for use:

• Stir thoroughly before use to prevent settling out of drying and protective agents.
• Ensure timber is clean and dry before coating.
• Apply 3 even coats without dilution. (First coat - primer coat, second coat - undercoat, third coat - finishing coat).
• On all horizontal top surfaces an additional coat is recommended.
• Never "slap" Armadek on heavy & thick, this retards drying and reduces toughness.
• Allow a minimum of two hours drying time between coats. Although Armadek is exceptionally fast-drying, drying time can be affected by conditions such as weather, and type of wood species and surface.
• Do not coat in damp conditions
• Applies to any timber type (softwood or hardwood but not timbers with high natural oil content).
• Allow each coating to dry thoroughly before applying an additional coating (normal drying time of 1-2 hours).
• For best results apply an additional coat within first 12 months. Using a medium / fine grade sandpaper or sanding pads if necessary, lightly sand and thoroughly clean the surfaces before applying this coat. The surface can also be cleaned with a mild detergent / solvent to remove dirt / impurities. (Any resinous wood knots or areas subjected to bird droppings, oil spillages, etc, will require additional cleaning).
• Old or previously varnished timber: Remove all traces of old coatings by sanding and/or scraping prior to applying Timbacare Armadek, as recommended for new timber above.

Application Tools:

Rystix can be applied using any of the following methods:

1. Brush on using a regular soft bristle brush .
2. Spray on using a garden sprayer.
3. Roller (medium pile).

Coverage:

• 10-12 m2 per litre on soft woods
• 12 - 14 m2 per litre on harder woods

Good Application Practice:

• All new timber to be coated with Armadek must be prepared with a fine sanding in the direction of the grain. Ensure timber is clean and dry before coating.
