Ultra long life, solvent based, deep penetrating UV resistant, weatherproof sealer for use on all exterior timber directly or indirectly exposed to harsh weather and strong sunlight. Sealer is design for treating hardwoods (including Ipe and Cumaru) and softwoods (all types, including Western Red Cedar) on applications such as cladding, wooden furniture, fascias, window frames and floors, sheds, log-cabins and decking.
In order to maintain and enhance the beautiful natural appearance of Cedar it is essential that you apply the best possible wood treatment.
Rystix Exterior Sealer is a unique hybrid between a penetrating oil and a film building product providing ultra long protection to all exterior timbers. The sealer obtains a deep penetration into the timber which is the key into the timber nd the foundation for the film building process. This unique ability enables long term treatment solutions for stable homogenous hardwood including Ipe and Cumaru as well as all softwoods including Western Red Cedar used extensively in the cladding industry. Rystix Exterior Sealer's ability to provide an effective coating to these timbers with high natural oil contect will only serve to emphasise its superior perfroamance ability on other hard and softwood timbers.
Superior quality Exterior Sealer looks like a varnish bu does not behave like a varnish. A long oil alkyd resin base provides the product with tremendous flexibility to expand and contract and the sealer will therefore not peel or flake. It has an exceptionally high degree of UV resistance and special agents to prevent dry rot, insect and fungal attack. Exterior Sealer has proven capability and durability in all climatic environments. Where product lifespan is likely to be determined by weathering rather than physical abrasion then the choice should be to use Exterior Sealer. Thi sproduct can be used to treat all timber types and application purposes including cladding, log-cabins, general outdor wooden furniture, windows and doors, fencing, fascias, sheds and decking. In a decking situation, which is subject to high traffic volumes the special hardening additive should be used in conjunction with the sealer to provide greater wear and abrasion resistance.
The deep penetrating ability enables Rystix Exterior Sealer to obtain a key into the actual surface of the timber. Thereafter the second coat will continue to seal the timber, but will also be the basis of the first layer to form a protective coating on the surface.
Coats 3 and 4, 4 in the case of horizontal decks, 3 in the case of vertical cladding, then build on this penetrating foundation and seal from the second coat to actually form a film which builds thickness on the surface and which affords protection from the weather, the repelling of water and absorption of UV light.
Exterior Sealer - Key Points:
- Long-oil Alkyd resin base (provides tremendous flexibility and will therefore not peel or flake, ultra-long lifespan).
- Hybrid: unique hybrid between a penetrating oil and a layer building product (obtains a deep penetration into the timber providing a foundation for the layer building).
- Layer building product (this provides UV protection as opposed to a penetrating oil which does not provide UV protection because it does not build a film layer).
- Contains UV filters and protects from fungi and insects.
- Provides long term protection to timbers with high natural oil content which are traditionally very difficult to coat (Cedar, Ipe, Teak, Massaranduba).
To verify the superiority of Exterior Sealer against 5 leading competitor products, Rystix Timbacare submitted the product to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and contracted them to run an accelerated weathering test. The test results confirmend Rystix Timbacare out-performed all its competitors.
Full scale field tests using selected commercial products, including Timbacare, were also conducted by the National Parks Board of South Africa on log chalets at the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park, resulting in Rystix Timbacare being accepted on superior performance.
On the strength of Timbacare's performance at the Tsitsikamma National Park it is now being specified for use throughout South Africa's National Parks as well as on all the outdoor timber on the Cape Town and Blomfontein Waterfronts as well as the Luderitz Waterfront in Namibia.
It is also being successfully used by many game lodge developments and specified on many of the major hotel and resort developments both in South Africa and in locations such as the Seychelles and Comores.

Exterior Sealer Safety Sheet
Exterior Sealer Specifications
Instructions for use (hardwoods):
- Apply at least 3 coats with the first coat being diluted with 25% mineral turpentine.
- Use with hardening "Additive for Sealer" in a horizontal decking situation that is subject to high traffic flow.
- Allow each coating to dry thoroughly before applying an additional coating (normal drying time of 8 hours which is reduced to 4 hours if combined with "Additive for Sealer").
- For best results apply an additional coat within the first 12 months.
Instructions for use (softwoods):
- Applly at least 3 undiluted coats.
Application Tools:
Rystix can be applied using any of the following methods:
- Brush on using a regular soft bristle brush .
- Spray on using a garden sprayer.
- Roller (medium pile).
Coverage:
- Approximately 10 m2 per litre, per coat.
- A 25ltr tin will cover 250 sq m approximately on a one coat basis. On the recommended 3 coat application a 25ltr tin will cover 85 sq m approx.
Good Application Practice:
- For maximum protection it is essential that sufficient sealer is carefully brushed on to the timber in order to achieve an even protective layer with an overall homogeneous lustre. An uneven or patchy appearance indicates insufficient coating, and an additional coat should be applied, however extra care should be taken when appying clear coatings.
