The Requirements

The client, David Ansley, moved into his 200 year old cottage in July 2009, however was unhappy with the existing roof, which had been in place for over 30 years. The roof was looking tired, with a number of the shingles suffering from weathering and becoming brittle, broken and split while retaining a lot of moisture. Having researched shingles repair and treatment, David felt the best option was to replace the shingles with a new solution. David decided Western Red Cedar shingles would suit the cottage best and came across a number of shingle suppliers, however chose Silva Timber based on our service, complete product offering and competitive price.

David initially ordered a ¼ pallet of shingles from Silva Timber in order to replace the roofing for the annex of the cottage. Once complete David decided to finish the entire roof on his cottage to the same style, ordering more shingles from Silva Timber which we were happy to provide.

Silva's Western Red Cedar Shingles provide a beautiful finish to David's roofing project. The warm, natural colour of the shingles complement the white wall finish to create a striking appearance full of character.

Silva's shingles are re-squared and rebutted after being cut, saving time on installation and creating an impeccable final finish.

While the shingles provide natural durability against the elements, David protected the wood further using Textrol Clear Penetrating Oil Finish to enhance the natural look and provide moisture resistance and UV protection. With the correct maintenance cedar shingles can last for decades maintaining their aesthetic beauty and stability.

Customer Testimonial

David Ansley's comments: "I was totally happy with the completed project. Silva were excellent to deal with, although I dealt with Keith all the time I did speak to other staff members who were equally as helpful."
