Hugo Bugg scooped both the Best Show Garden and Young Designer of the Year award for his Albert Dock Garden, which acknowledges the role of Liverpool's Albert Dock in bringing prosperity, growth and power to the UK. Using a range of contrasting materials, the garden represents change, ingenuity and innovation through its use of materials and layout, much like the dock when it was first conceived in the nineteenth century.
Silva Timber supplied 25 x 140mm Select Tight Knot Western Red Cedar boards for the garden's border, creating a natural structural solution to contrast against the brickwork and paving and complement the garden's foliage.
Another winning design by Elizabeth Daley Garden Design for The Christie, Embracing Tranquillity was created as a reflection of how gardens can offer a positive force towards healing and restoration, providing a place for rejuvenation, relaxation and reflection.
The garden couples a contemporary use of material with elements of tradition monastic style. This is softened by the plants that have medicinal and therapeutic qualities, with the varying profiles of Western Red Cedar boards providing a natural, environmentally-friendly and beautiful backdrop, while also showing it's structural strength with a wonderfully designed garden bench feature.
The Embracing Tranquility garden was awarded a Silver Gilt award at the Show.
A Silver Medal was also awarded to The Trentham Estate for Clive Mollart's design, 'A Sound Garden'. Taking an innovative approach to garden sound installation, not only does the planting create gentle sound as it moves, but hidden within the garden are electronic sensors that add another dimension, allowing visitors to interact with an evolving sound engine. The sound produced is directly influenced and created by the way in which the user moves, providing an interactive, therapeutic and sensory garden.
Silva Timber supplied Western Red Cedar trim boards, used in the garden for horizontal slatted screens as an enclosure and backdrop for the beautiful surroundings.
The Sound Garden is to be rebuilt in the Trentham Garden Estate for visitors to enjoy for time to come.
Silva Timber would like to congratulate the award winners and participants for their efforts.
