COVID-19 - An update from Nick Taylor, Managing Director

In March, we followed government advice to help contain the outbreak of COVID-19 and temporarily ceased our manufacturing and warehouse operations. Most of our staff were furloughed, and we continued as best we could with a skeleton team working from their homes.

Over the last few weeks, we have been working hard to carefully reintroduce our contact-free delivery and collection services to ensure our colleagues and customers' safety. We are currently adhering to strict social distancing guidelines. As a result, a large portion of our office staff are still working from home, and adjustments have been made to warehouse operations to ensure the safety of the Silva team and our customers.

During the closure, it was predicted that there would be a surge in demand for building products once suppliers re-opened. Silva received a surprising number of orders, despite customers not knowing when these orders would be fulfilled. Though we expected to be busy, were not prepared for the unprecedented deluge of enquiries and orders we received once we began operating again towards the end of April.

Fortunately, our stock situation throughout this period has been extremely good, and we also managed to secure additional stock from our suppliers, which was able to be shipped at short notice to boost our stock levels.

Silva's warehouse and production team are working flat-out: producing, picking, packing, and delivering orders at a phenomenal rate. Our sales team is working equally hard to deal with the exceptional number of enquiries we are receiving, but our response time is longer than it would be under normal circumstances.

We are not alone. Most building material suppliers and DIY stores such as B & Q and Wickes are experiencing an exceptional demand, which is putting a strain on even the largest companies. Overall, Silva is faring up well under the circumstances. Unfortunately, though, we are struggling to deal with enquiries of a more complex nature which require long responses. In most cases, the information can be found on our website.

Customers who know what they need can place their order through the Silva website or call our sales team on 0151 495 3111.

Customers who have placed an order and are wondering when they will receive it do not need to contact us. We will be in touch with you once we have a firm delivery date.

Despite the situation, we are fulfilling virtually all orders within the period quoted at the time of placing the order. Only a tiny percentage of orders are slipping beyond this; however, we are working hard to prevent this from happening.

The team at Silva would like to thank our customers for their support and understanding during this extraordinary time that we are all experiencing. Rest assured; we are doing our very best to serve you.
