An update from our Managing Director

26 March 2020

Following Government advice to contain the outbreak of COVID-19 and safeguard our staff, customers and suppliers, Silva Timber has taken the decision to temporarily cease its manufacturing and warehouse operations. This means:

  • No further deliveries or collections will be possible until the restrictions are lifted.
  • Our showrooms remain closed.
  • Our staff are working remotely and are on hand to assist with any project planning, general enquiries or order requirements you may have.

Please contact us by phone, email or using the live chat facility on our website. Orders can also be placed on the website.

Demand for timber products is still high as both trade and retail customers plan projects for 2020. As such, we are placing all orders into a queuing system to ensure products are allocated fairly. Our stock availability is updated regularly so you can place orders with confidence, and orders will be shipped from the backlog in the order they are received.

We recommend if you have a project planned that you continue to place orders to avoid delays once things return to normal.

We would like to thank you again for your continued support during these unprecedented times.

A Message from our Managing Director

24 March 2020

After a long, dark, and very wet winter, the sun has finally made an appearance. We should all be full of optimism at the prospect of the arrival of spring. Instead, we find ourselves in this bizarre and unbelievable situation, with all of us embarking on a potentially long period of considerable uncertainty.

In light of the situation, I want to give you an update and let you know how we at Silva are going about dealing with the effects of COVID-19.

The safety of the Silva team and customers is our highest priority right now. The Widnes and Harmondsworth branches are both open for business. The company has the technology in place to facilitate working remotely, with phone calls diverted to the sales team who have full access to our system in their homes. The few staff that remain in the offices do so in relative isolation. We have temporarily closed our showrooms and collections.

+ Full operating information

To help combat the spread of COVID-19, we have put precautionary safety measures in place, including:

  • Educating our staff on prevention
  • Emphasising frequent and proper hand washing
  • Regular cleaning of high contact points more frequently

We have also introduced a revised delivery procedure as follows:

  • If the recipient customer refuses to sign for a delivery on the paper copy, our driver will enter their name and enter CV (Coronavirus) in the signature   Customer will be asked if they are happy for the driver to sign on their behalf and will request a PDF copy if required.
  • The Customer will still have the opportunity at the delivery point to confirm any damage as is normal practice.
  • The CV Signature will then be classed as a successful delivery.

Our Showrooms are temporarily closed and we have temporarily stopped collections.

In line with Government guidance, we continue to operate as usual and we will update our customers accordingly, carefully following official guidance from the UK Government and Public Health England.

If you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact our Sales Department.  Assuring you all of our best attention at all times.

Silva currently has a large stock holding at our Widnes HQ. Our Harmondsworth branch has a good stock level too. We have at least 20 more containers of timber scheduled to land over the next eight weeks. Ports and logistics companies are still operating normally at present. If this changes, we'll keep you posted.

Now, I want to use this opportunity to express how proud I am of the Silva team for showing incredible positivity in the face of such overwhelming adversity. We are a tight unit of 40 people based in two locations. Employees have often commented that it feels more like a family than a company. That's how I feel too. People tend to stick around, with some having been in employment at Silva for over 15 years.

Last week the team quickly rallied round and re-organised themselves to ensure the operation continues to run smoothly. Despite the challenges faced, the entire team has displayed an immense spirit and determination to keep things rolling under these most difficult of circumstances. For this, I am immensely grateful.

Finally, to our valued customers, I want to thank you for your consideration and support through this unfortunate period. This is a time for us all to pull together and take care of each other, our communities, and our industry. In this difficult time, I hope you are all keeping safe and well, and I send you all very best wishes from myself and the Silva team.

COVID-19 Announcement

19 March 2020

We, at Silva Timber Products, wanted to update all on the steps we are taking to help minimise the spread of COVID-19.

We continue to follow and monitor the official guidance from the UK Government and Public Health England. It is of vital importance for us to be in a position to ensure that all procedures are in place and maintained to support the health and well-being of all our employees and customers.

We have introduced the revised visitor/collection procedure as follows:

All customers/visitors, including showroom, to adhere to social distancing protocol

  • The front door will be locked at all times
  • Showroom customers – please ring the bell for access
  • We will operate a one in/one out customer in the showroom
  • Other customers will be asked to remain in their vehicle
  • No showroom access after 4pm – this will enable a deep clean to take place
  • Social distancing guidelines to be adhered to at all times (2 metres apart)
  • Card payments only at this time (no cash) – card machine will be cleaned before and after each transaction
  • Warehouse shutters will remain closed

In line with Government guidance, we continue to operate as usual and we will update our customers accordingly, carefully following official guidance from the UK Government and Public Health England.

If you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact our Sales Department.  Assuring you all of our best attention at all times.

Yours sincerely,
