Everything you need to build a Western Red Cedar Deck

Create a beautiful and practical outdoor living space quickly and easily with one of our superb Cedar Deck Kits

Over the years our Cedar deck kits have proved extremely popular with landscapers, garden designers and do-it-yourselfers alike. They are easy to build, contain all the essential components, and can easily be expanded and/or personalised with, railing and trellis.

Our standard deck kit contains everything you need (excluding fasteners) to build a ground level deck over an existing solid base such as a patio (does not need to be level), or if no base exists, it can be built over a series of paving stones placed on solid ground.

Standard deck kits include:

Please note Deck Kits do not include fascia boards. We're aware customers may only require one end of their deck to be covered by fascia, or may require all 4 sides to be covered. Please consider this when choosing your Deck Kit, if fascias are required please click here to choose the suitable length and add to your order.

Silva Timber now offer a wider choice of Cedar deck kits than ever with 25 in the range. Our deck kits are now supplied with our superb 40 x 140mm Cedardeck. Produced from coastal grown tight grained Western Red Cedar, this decking is full of character and stunningly beautiful. At 40mm thick this decking looks substantial and feels very solid underfoot. There is another advantage to using this thicker decking too: 40mm Cedar decking will span 600mm joist centres rather than the usual 400mm which reduces the labour time assembling the frame and screwing down the deck boards.

Assembly of our Cedar deck kits is relatively simple and only a few basic tools are required. Joists are screwed together to form the frame which sits in the Easyfix rubber joist supports. The frame is then levelled using the rubber shims before the deck boards are screwed down - it really is that simple!

Deck kits are supplied with detailed instructions so you really can’t go wrong, but if you are unsure about any construction details or you have any general questions our knowledgeable customer support team is only a phone call away.

Finishing & Protection

It is recommended that a finish is applied to all surfaces, including ends, before installation. The type of coating will be determined by the final finish and appearance desired.

Why Pre-finish?

  • Enhances the natural beauty of wood
  • Ensures a consistent finish
  • Applied in factory conditions
  • Long lasting protection against weathering
  • Simple maintenance routine
  • Reduces onsite labour costs

Sansin Enviro Stains

Easy to apply and maintain, Sansin Enviro-stains deliver outstanding performance. Sansin's range of wood protection products are available in 80 colour tones

What is weathering?

There is a risk involved when leaving wood exposed to the elements. During the weathering process wood can appear unsightly as the material can blacken due to moisture getting into the fibres and pulling out tannins and extractives. Finish protects the wood from moisture absorption and UV degradation.

Western Red Cedar Cedardeck

Timber is a beautiful, natural and versatile material that cannot be replicated by any man made product. It is the only building material that is naturally renewable and truly sustainable.

Timber is manufactured from trees which have developed naturally and responsively to their environment. Being a 100% natural product it varies from one piece to another, each having variations in grain patterns and colour.

We understand that for the uninitiated buying timber can be a daunting process, so this section of the website has been written with the novice in mind. We’ve attempted to explain how and why timber is graded and what to expect when you receive a delivery of timber from us. We’ve also included relevant sections from the grading rules, and to help you understand these rules we’ve included definitions of natural characteristics and manufacturing irregularities.  By the time you have read and digested all this, you will probably know more about the subject than most of the staff at your local timber merchant!

Whilst there is no doubting the importance of grading rules, it should be stated that the same grade can differ from one supplier to the next, just as the quality of apples will differ from one greengrocer to the next. Here at Silva we’ve gone to great lengths to source the very best products available.  Rather than buying on an ‘ad-hoc’ basis from a series of different suppliers we prefer to form long term relationships with reliable mills that focus on quality and consistency.

We are confident in the quality of our products and we want you to be confident with your purchase, which is why we invite you to visit our premises in Widnes to see our products first hand before placing an order. We even encourage you to visit our competitors first so that you can compare our quality to theirs.

Western Red Cedar is the ultimate green building material. It is legally, responsibly and sustainably harvested in the publicly managed forests of British Columbia, Canada. Less than 1% of standing timber is harvested each year.

For each tree harvested, three are replanted to ensure the forests will exist in perpetuity. Western Red Cedar has a low impact on the environment throughout its life cycle. It requires significantly less energy to produce than man-made alternatives and is bio-degradable.
