Factory coated Siberian Larch in Sansin SDF 'Light Honey'

Sansin™ SDF™

SDF is a tough, effective penetrating stain for wood cladding. SDF’s specially formulated oils and resins penetrate into the wood, providing outstanding protection against moisture and UV rays.

‘Light Honey’ from Sansin’s ‘Exterior Natural’ range is the perfect complement for Siberian Larch cladding. It enhances the woods’ natural golden tones and allows its beautiful grain patterns to shine through.

SILVAlarch™ Channel Profile

SILVAlarch™ channel cladding profile is suitable for both internal and external applications. It has a tongue and groove joint for easy installation.

This profile can be orientated horizontally or vertically to accentuate either the width or height of the façade. A bevel edged channel along the joint creates a bold shadow line effect.

Channel cladding forms part of the SILVAlarch™ range of kiln dried Siberian Larch decking, cladding, boards and corner trims produced in-house by Silva.

Kiln Dried

This cladding is kiln dried to a moisture content of 16-18% (+/-2%), the optimal moisture content for external cladding in the UK. The kiln drying process has many benefits over air drying. It enables the boards to dry uniformly to achieve optimum dimensional stability. Kiln drying also enables immediate application of coatings and minimises site acclimatisation. Read more about the benefits of kiln dried timber.

Maintainance – approximately every 4 – 6 years or as required*

1. Clean surface with a solution of wood cleaner diluted with water. 2. Apply a single top up coat over existing coating. No need to sand or strip. *maintenance intervals vary greatly depending on a number of factors including building design, orientation, location, proximity to trees etc.

Raw Material

SILVALarch™ cladding is produced from the highest quality slow grown Siberian Larch from the Irkutsk region of Russia, an area that experiences long cold winters and short summers. Wood from this harsh climate is much sought after for its natural growth characteristics – exceptionally slow growing therefore dense with tight grain.

With immediate access to a plentiful supply of old growth logs from this vast forest area, our supplier is able to provide us with Siberian Larch of an exceptional quality that far exceeds the official 'GOST 26002-83' grading standards.

It is important to note that Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica) is not to be confused with European Larch (Larix decidua, Larix europaea), which grows mainly in continental Europe and also here in the UK. Although related, Siberian Larch has different physical properties and is known to have superior performance characteristics. Notably it has a different appearance, it is more dimensionally stable, denser and more durable (due to its growing conditions) than its European cousin.

SILVALarch™ channel cladding is available exclusively through Silva. It is sustainably sourced from well managed forests and supplied with full FSC chain of custody certification.

Grading

Our most popular grade is SILVAlarch™ BC, produced from the sawn timber grade ‘Sawfalling (I-IV)’ and re-sorted in house during the production process. Well interspersed sound tight knots are the main characteristic.
