As a natural oil/wax-based product, Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is micro-porous allowing the wood to breathe without cracking, flaking, peeling, or blistering. Osmo Wood Wax Finish is water-repellent so it will not suffer from water marks. It has a long history of use in rooms with high moisture content such as kitchens and bathrooms. It is also dirt resistant so dirt can easily be removed.

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is simple to use and requires little or no maintenance. It has a creamy consistency (thixotropic) and is very easy to apply.

The dried surface is resistant against wine, beer, cola drinks, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk, and water according to DIN 68861-1C.

With a clear, satin finish, Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is particularly well suited to the treatment of dense exotic woods. The fact that it is thinner in consistency means that it will penetrate deeply into dark hardwood species such as Teak, Walnut, Cedar, Iroko, Mahogany etc.

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin can also be applied by spraying or dipping in professional application plants.

A Natural Oil and Wax-based Product

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is a natural vegetable oil and wax-based product. The natural oils and waxes penetrate deeply into the wood to prevent it from drying out and becoming brittle. This keeps the wood healthy and elastic and reduces shrinking and swelling. The wood is allowed to breathe and moisture can evaporate.

Health and Environment

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin does not contain biocides or preservatives. It is safe for man, animal and plant when dry and complies with German DIN 53160 (fast to perspiration and saliva) and EURO Norm EN 71.3 (suitable for children’s toys).

Osmo only manufactures and supplies products that are safe and environmentally friendly both during production and application. This has resulted in successful certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 (quality management) and DIN EN ISO 14001 (environmental management) by the TÜV (Technical Control Board) Rhineland.

Uses

All interior wood surfaces: panelling, ceilings, cornices, beams, furniture, doors, tabletops, toys. It is also suitable for all kinds of wooden floors and is especially recommended for rooms with high moisture content (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.).

Osmo Wood Wax Finish can also be used for touching-up painted or varnished surfaces. It can be applied to all wood species and also laminated wood, hardboard, OSB (oriented strand board), and cork (all without primer).

Coverage

Approximately 24 square metres per litre on smooth wood with one coat.

Rough or striated wood in general needs more material due to its surface structure.

Surface Preparation

Wood surface must be clean, dry (maximum moisture content 18%) and frost-free.

Furniture finish: it is recommended that the surface be sanded down to the desired degree of smoothness - carefully remove all dust.

Previously stained wood (micro-porous stains): the surface must be cleaned or lightly sanded.

Old paints and varnishes must be removed (by Osmo Paint Remover or by sanding).

If in a good state and only requiring a little touching up: clean with cloth or sand lightly.

Wood tending to attract blue stain (e.g. pine in rooms with high humidity): pre-treat with one coat of Osmo Wood Protector (biocide-free) up to one week before applying a final coat of Wood Wax Finish.

Compatibility

Can be applied over all Osmo Waxes with one coat only. It can also be applied over other micro-porous stains and Osmo Wood Protector (biocide-free).

Corrosion

In areas of high humidity, the use of galvanized, non-oxidizing nails and fasteners is recommended.

Method of Application

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin can be applied by brush or lint-free cloth. It can also be applied by dipping or spraying in professional application plants.

Application temperature must be +5°C.

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is ready to use. Do not thin. Stir well before use. Apply a thin coat evenly and thoroughly with stiff quality brush or cloth along the wood grain on a clean, dry surface.

If a deeper shade is desired, a second thin coat can be applied, allowing 12 hours drying time between coats.

To obtain a higher sheen the dry surface can be polished with a dry, clean cotton cloth or Osmo polishing pad (ultra-fine steel wool grade 000) or scotch pad.

Where possible apply on all sides of the wood before installation

Floors

For the clear treatment of wooden flooring (also cork or OSB) we recommend Osmo Hardwax-Oil which has been specially developed for this purpose. It makes flooring very resistant against abrasion and dirt as well as water-repellent.

Because of the hard wear, these surfaces are exposed to, two coats are recommended.

Cleaning of Tools

With Osmo Brush Cleaner (benzole-free) or white spirit.

Drying Time

Approximately 12 hours (provide good ventilation); dust-dry after approximately 6 hours. Osmo Finishes dry by oxidation therefore the surface will become tougher and more resistant in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Maintenance

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin requires little or no maintenance. If desired apply another coat on a clean, dry surface as above.

Floors: for daily cleaning use a duster, mop or vacuum cleaner. Heavily soiled surfaces can also be cleaned with water (containing Osmo Wash and Care).

Heavy stains: remove with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. This will also freshen up the surface. Apply a further thin coat of Osmo Hardwax-Oil when the surface starts looking dull.

Damage: clean worn or damaged area with Osmo Polishing Pad in Clear Extra Thin No. 1101 or Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner (or by sanding if necessary) - let dry - apply one coat of Osmo Hardwax-Oil - leave to dry overnight and polish over with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. You will see no repair marks or overlapping.

Storage

Can be stored up to 5 years or more if the can is full and tightly closed. Store in a dry place. If thickened by frost it will regain normal consistency under normal temperatures within 24-36 hours.
