The absolute finest knotty cedar decking available

Silva Timber’s Cedardeck Western Red Cedar decking has a stunning natural appearance and exceptional performance characteristics making it the perfect material for creating attractive and practical outdoor living spaces.

Western Red Cedar is renowned for its durability, dimensional stability and natural beauty. Another key advantage of Western Red Cedar - and particularly important when used as decking - is that it is relatively splinter free, making an ideal play surface for kids and an all-round pleasing surface to sit on and walk barefoot upon – great for using around swimming pools and hot tubs.

On top of an already impressive list of natural attributes, Cedardeck also emits a distinctive aroma and exudes a feeling of warmth and luxury that makes it stand apart from other decking materials.

It forms part of Silva’s range of Western Red Cedar cladding, boards, fence and screen components, roof shingles and shakes.

Cedardeck is produced for Silva Timber by one of British Columbia’s largest and most respected primary Western Red Cedar sawmills.

Only the highest quality wood fibre is used in the production of Cedardeck, so you can be assured that you are buying a consistent high grade select tight knot Western Red Cedar decking product. It is sustainably sourced from well managed forests and supplied with full PEFC chain of custody certification.

Cedardeck is available exclusively in the UK through Silva. It is sustainably sourced from well-managed forests and supplied with full PEFC chain of custody certification.

Finishing & Protection

It is recommended that a finish is applied to all surfaces, including ends, before installation. The type of coating will be determined by the final finish and appearance desired.

Why factory coat?

  • Enhances the natural beauty of wood
  • Ensures a consistent finish
  • Applied in factory conditions
  • Long lasting protection against weathering
  • Simple maintenance routine
  • Reduces onsite labour costs

Sansin Enviro Stains

Easy to apply and maintain, Sansin Enviro-stains deliver outstanding performance. Sansin's range of wood protection products are available in 80 colour tones

What is weathering?

There is a risk involved when leaving wood exposed to the elements. During the weathering process wood can appear unsightly as the material can blacken due to moisture getting into the fibres and pulling out tannins and extractives. Finish protects the wood from moisture absorption and UV degradation.

Take advantage of Silva's sanding and factory pre-finishing service

Now you can buy decking pre-sanded on the surface to save the hassle of onsite preparation work

The secret to a perfect finish is to sand the surface prior to applying the coating. The more care taken with preparation, the more finish will penetrate the wood, providing an even, consistent and long-lasting finish. Studies have proven sanding can extend the life of a finish by up to 3 times compared to an unsanded surface.

This product far surpasses the Architect Knotty Grade (described below)

By Kiln Drying before manufacture, the surface is even smoother. Tighter grading rules mean that you will find less wane and no soft knots, making this the ultimate rustic cedar decking available.

Architect Knotty Grade

Cedardeck is consistent, well manufactured Western Red Cedar decking that offers good quality and an attractive appearance at a reasonable price. It is made in Canada by a Western Red Cedar Lumber Assocation (WRCLA) member mill and exceeds the 'Architect Knotty' grading standards set by WRCLA.

The main feature of this product is the inclusion of well interspersed sound tight (live) knots. Occasional small 'not firmly fixed knots' are also permitted, however they are very few in number and will not detract from the overall appearance. A small percentage of boards will exhibit some wane on the reverse, however this will not be visible once the boards are installed.

Western Red Cedar is the ultimate green building material. It is legally, responsibly and sustainably harvested in the publicly managed forests of British Columbia, Canada. Less than 1% of standing timber is harvested each year.

For each tree harvested, three are replanted to ensure the forests will exist in perpetuity. Western Red Cedar has a low impact on the environment throughout its life cycle. It requires significantly less energy to produce than man-made alternatives and is bio-degradable.
