Western Red Cedar was the material of choice for the new sports facility at The Grange School, an independent educational establishment for 4-18-year olds. Founded in 1933, and based in Hartford, Cheshire, the school has gone from strength to strength and is now credited as one of the top independent schools in the country.
The school has recently benefitted from the addition of a new £3.5 million state of the art sports facility. The centre aims to help young athletes to train and improve in all areas, with a view to competing both regionally and nationally.
The sports facility is home to a sports hall which houses 4 badminton courts, a climbing wall, fitness suite and dance studio, together with modern changing facilities.
To the exterior, the new facility benefitted from a contemporary design thanks to plans drawn up by Architects, Squires & Brown. The blend of a rendered finish alongside the beautiful colour tones of Western Red Cedar makes for a show-stopping entrance.
The Grange School Sports Facility features our Silva Select Prestige VG Tongue & Groove style cladding. This stunning cladding is 100% vertical grain, which results in better dimensionally stability, improved resistance to UV degradation and better finish absorption than flat grain variants. Produced from No.2 grade Clear & Better Grade cedar, Silva's Western Red Cedar is kiln-dried and comes with full PEFC certification.
Squires & Brown Architects opted for a factory coated finish to the wood to properly protect it from the elements. To emulate the natural colour tones of cedar, they selected Sansin's SDF Harvest Gold which forms part of the Naturals range. Sansin SDF is available in 5 colour tones and over 120 colourways.
