SILVALarch V-Joint weatherboarding can be orientated horizontally or vertically to accentuate either the width or height of the façade.

A bevel at both edges of the face creates a subtle V-shaped shadow line effect along the joint. With its clean lines and flat profile, this V-Joint profile makes an excellent choice when a contemporary appearance is desired.

SILVALarch V-Joint weatherboarding is quick and easy to install, provides excellent weather protection and allows for dimensional movement.

V-Joint weatherboarding forms part of the SILVALarch™ range of kiln dried Siberian Larch decking, cladding, boards and corner trims produced in-house by Silva.

Naturally durable Siberian Larch cladding

Raw Material

SILVALarch™ cladding is produced from the highest quality slow-grown Siberian Larch from the Irkutsk region of Russia, an area that experiences long cold winters and short summers. Wood from this harsh climate is much sought after for its natural growth characteristics – exceptionally slow- growing and therefore dense with tight grain. With immediate access to a plentiful supply of old-growth logs from this vast forest area, our supplier is able to provide us with Siberian Larch of an exceptional quality that far exceeds the official 'GOST 26002-83' grading standards.

It is important to note that Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica) is not to be confused with European Larch (Larix decidua, Larix europaea), which grows mainly in continental Europe and also here in the UK. Although related, Siberian Larch has different physical properties and is widely regarded to be a superior material. Notably it has a different appearance, it is more dimensionally stable, denser and more durable (due to its growing conditions) than its European cousin.

SILVALarch™ V-Joint weatherboarding is available exclusively through Silva. It is sustainably sourced from well managed forests and supplied with full FSC chain of custody certification.

The Benefits of SilvaLarch:

Warm-toned with distinctive grain patterns, the wood of Siberian Larch has a highly attractive appearance. The heartwood is golden to reddish-brown and is sharply defined from the narrow light-coloured sapwood. The annual rings are clearly marked by a difference in colour between early wood and late wood, giving the wood attractive figure and a pleasing aesthetic.

The natural durability of Siberian Larch is due to extractives present in the wood; in particular the phenolic compounds of the heartwood which have a toxic effect on certain rot-causing fungi.

Properly finished and maintained, Siberian Larch will have a service life of 50+ years. It has a decay resistance of durability class 3 (slightly durable, moderately durable) according to the EN 113 standard.

Siberian Larch has low permeability, so it can cope with varying levels of humidity without absorbing much water, and thus will not shrink or swell excessively in service. It is classified by TRADA as having ‘small’ moisture movement, though as a comparison, it is less dimensionally stable than Western Red Cedar.

The hardness of Siberian Larch, which is highly correlated with its density, makes it difficult for water and fungi to penetrate the wood. This has a positive effect on coating performance, helping to maintain a better appearance and reducing maintenance.

Kiln Dried

SILVALarch™ is kiln dried to a moisture content of 16-18% (+/-2%), the optimal moisture content for external cladding in the UK. Among its many benefits over air drying, the kiln drying process enables the boards to dry uniformly to achieve optimum dimensional stability. It also enables immediate application of coatings and minimises site acclimatisation. For more information on the benefits of kiln dried timber  click here.

This product is FSC certified.

FSC is a world-wide, independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation representing environmental and social groups and the timber and forestry industry. It aims to generate certification of forestry activity that incorporates clear guidelines and standards covering social, environmental and economic aspects of forest management.

Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives of the last decade to promote responsible forest management worldwide.

The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value.

Chain of Custody (CoC)

The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification system provides an audit trail from forest to final use. The rigour of the system is ensured by regular independent inspection at all stages in the supply chain.

FSC chain of custody (CoC) tracks FSC certified material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.

Only FSC CoC certified operations are allowed to label products with the FSC trademarks. The FSC label thus provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.

Silva Timber Products meets the requirements for FSC Chain of Custody Standard FSC - STD - 40 - 004 (2004) within the BM TRADA Certification Limited Scheme for TRADA - Trak chain of custody certification.
